Academy of Country Music

After Jam

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, NV

May 17, 2005

A new band from California started the show. They were okay but I can't remember their name.  I can remember that their second song was much better than the first.  Erika Jo sang one of her own songs and then "Black Velvet".  She didn't appear too comfortable on the stage.  Billy Currington sang "I got A Feeling".  He is really cute.  Tracy Lawrence sang "Time Marches On" and "Paint Me A Birmingham".  Craig Morgan sang "That's What I Love About Sunday".  Neal McCoy, winner of the Home Depot Humanitarian Award, sang "Wink" and "The Shake".  Miranda Lambert, winner of the Cover Girl Fresh Faces Award, sang "Kerosene" and another song.  In what was apparently a surprise performance, Big and Rich performed with Musik Mafia.  Lee Ann Womack sang "I May Hate Myself in the Morning".  Blue County sang "Good Little Girls".  Trick Pony sang "Pour Me" and "It's A Heartache". Terri Clark sang two rock songs. Montgomery Gentry rocked the house with "My Town", "Hell Yeah", and "Gone".  The house came down when Kenny Chesney, winner of the Entertainer of the Year, came out to the stage.  Kenny Chesney sang "The Fireman" and tried to sing "Sticks and Stones" with Tracy LawrenceHot Apple Pie performed "Hillbillies". Sugarland had the audience in the palm of their hand with  "Baby Girl" and "Something More".  Watch out for Sugarland at next years award show.  Chely Wright sang "Bumper of My SUV" with a very emotional tribute to the military.  Jamie O'Neal sang "Trying to Find Atlantis".  There was a guy who sang that we can't remember his name.. but he sang a song about my kind of country music.  It was pretty good.  [Edit 12/29/05 - Finally discovered this unknown guy is Ray Scott.] Lauren Lucas, nominee for the Fresh Faces award, sang "The Carolina Kind".  Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband played a couple of songs.   Jason Aldean sang "Hicktown". To close the evening, Darryl Worley performed and signed a few autographs.
